The Opportunity
Otter Wise Talent Solutions is proud to partner with a growing organization operating within a capital-intensive industry to recruit an experienced Senior Financial Accountant.
Based in Redwater, Alberta, this position reports directly to the Controller and plays a critical role in delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing financial insight that supports operational excellence and business growth.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close activities.
- Prepare monthly working papers, balance sheet reconciliations, and adjusting journal entries.
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of monthly financial reporting.
- Assist in preparing financial statement packages for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare and file regulatory returns, including:
- GST/HST
- Workers' Compensation Board (WCB)
- Royalties
- Other required government filings
- Ensure compliance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and applicable regulatory requirements.
General Accounting
- Maintain customer and supplier master data.
- Support full-cycle accounting processes, including purchasing, billing, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Assist with year-end financial statement preparation and coordinate with external auditors.
- Support finance department projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Business Support
- Partner with Finance, Operations, and external service providers.
- Analyze financial information and identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
- Support business initiatives through accurate financial analysis and reporting.
- Contribute to process improvements that strengthen financial controls and operational effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- CPA designation is strongly preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Experience with full-cycle accounting, including purchasing, billing, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting external audits.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Skills
Experience with the following is highly preferred:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Office Suite
- SharePoint
- QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
- Financial reporting and reconciliation systems
Experience within mining, manufacturing, industrial operations, natural resources, energy, or other capital-intensive industries is considered a strong asset.

Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary of $105,000 - $119,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Three (3) weeks of paid vacation.
