The Opportunity
Otter Wise Talent Solutions is proud to partner with a growing organization operating within a capital-intensive industry to recruit an experienced Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst.
Based in Redwater, Alberta, this role will support strategic financial planning, forecasting, and executive decision-making while partnering closely with operations, technical teams, and senior leadership. You will play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, capital planning, and business performance analysis, helping drive informed decisions across a growing organization.
This opportunity is ideal for an analytical finance professional with experience in mining, natural resources, energy, utilities, manufacturing, industrial operations, or other capital-intensive industries who enjoys transforming financial data into strategic business insights.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Forecasting
- Develop and maintain annual operating budgets and multi-year financial plans.
- Prepare rolling forecasts incorporating production assumptions, operating costs, market conditions, and capital expenditures.
- Support financial planning for major capital projects and long-term business initiatives.
- Assist leadership with strategic planning and financial forecasting.
Financial Analysis
- Perform monthly variance analysis comparing actual results to budget and forecast.
- Analyze operating costs, capital expenditures, and business performance.
- Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities while providing recommendations to leadership.
- Evaluate financial performance across business units, projects, and operational areas.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for senior leadership.
- Develop dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs) focused on financial and operational performance.
- Support executive presentations, Board reporting, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Present financial analysis and recommendations to business leaders.
Business Partnering
- Collaborate closely with operations, engineering, technical teams, and executive leadership.
- Provide financial insight supporting operational improvements and strategic initiatives.
- Assist with scenario planning, including:
- Production forecasting
- Capital investment analysis
- Cost optimization initiatives
- Business growth opportunities
Financial Modeling
- Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models.
- Perform investment analysis, including:
- Net Present Value (NPV)
- Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
- Sensitivity Analysis
- Capital investment modeling
- Support business cases, expansion initiatives, and potential acquisitions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- CPA, CFA, or progress toward a professional designation is considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Corporate Finance, or a related financial analysis role.
- Experience within mining, natural resources, energy, utilities, manufacturing, industrial operations, infrastructure, or other capital-intensive industries is strongly preferred.
- Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting experience.
- Strong understanding of management reporting, variance analysis, and financial planning.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Technical Skills
Experience with the following is highly preferred:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel
- Financial Modeling
- SAP or Oracle ERP
- Power BI or Tableau
- Microsoft Office Suite

- Competitive salary of $105,000 - $125,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
